Tom Petty Takes the Crown as MusiCares Person of the Year 2017, and Raises Staggering Amount of Money for Charity
Each year The Recording Academy hosts a Person of the Year fundraiser which benefits the MusiCares Foundation. This group is well-known for providing safety, support and assistance for those in the music industry when they need it most; including supplying them with confidential resources in the financial, and medical fields. Since 1957, The Recording Academy has helped an abundance of songwriters, producers, and recording professionals improve their quality of life.
2017 marks the 27th annual gala which features a tribute to MusiCares Person of the Year. Prior to the Grammy awards, there is a benefit dinner followed by a concert which is used to introduce the nominated celebrity.
Folks who attended this A-list event were more than gracious with their donations to the MusiCares foundation. With seats ranging from $750-$7,500, and auctions taking place throughout the night, there’s no wonder the gala raised a grand total of $8.5 million in a few short hours!
It also comes as no surprise that three time Grammy winner, Tom Petty was honored as the 2017 MusiCares Person of the Year. Many of Petty’s fans are aware that he has always worked towards being a charitable celebrity. With a keen interest in defending artists rights, and focusing on helping the homeless in L.A. Petty will leave a lasting reputation on the upcoming generations of Rock and Roll.
Not only is Petty a respectable celebrity, he also boasts unstoppable talent. After being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame he never let fame or glory get in the way of doing the right thing. He continued his notable community involvement in such a humble way, and never expected anything in return.
“Tom Petty is an icon whose incomparable artistry has provided inspiration to fans and musicians all over the world,” said chair of MusiCares foundation board Alexandra Patsavas. “To honor him with this tribute is so fitting, and we certainly look forward to an exciting and extraordinary evening.
