Her father Maurice is a quirky townsman himself, and the townspeople think that the family is little odd. Strapping, cocky Gaston attempts to woo Belle, but she doesn’t fall for his charming tricks. Meanwhile, there is a castle in the woods that is home to the Beast. Years prior, the castle was full of wealth and happiness until the greedy Prince turned away an old beggar woman one cold night, and her actual identity as an enchantress haunts the castle for forever, turning people in objects and the Prince into the Beast. She leaves an enchanted rose, and tells him that he has until the last petal falls to find true love, or they all will be trapped in their alternate bodies for forever.
Maurice travels through the woods one night and finds himself escaping a pack of wolves, ending at the castle. The Beast takes Maurice prisoner, and Belle ventures out to find him. When she enters the castles and meets the Beast, she decides to stay in his place as prisoner. The story of compassion, love, and true beauty found within is why Beauty and the Beast is a classic tale.
