.) Recycle those beer bottles! – If you’re having a house party tonight, it’s likely you’ll have a decent number of empty beer bottles to clean up in the morning. Collect them all neatly and take them to your nearest recycling location. If you live in a state that gives monetary refunds, you’ll be surprised at how quickly those five and ten cent deposits add up. An alternative option is to upcycle bottles into candles, lamps, or even xylophones (see here).
.) Eat healthy! – Not a fan of broccoli? Haven’t jumped on the kale bandwagon? No probs. There are tons of deliciously healthy green things you can eat today (and make snackatizers with) including: avocados, pesto, cucumbers, mint, lettuce, pears, apples, kiwis, limes, and even green tea! Don’t use green food coloring this holiday; choose natural ingredients for your party food.
.) Walk to the bar! – Obviously you should never drink and drive. But if you live close enough to your favorite dives, then give your muscles some much-needed activity. Cabs are a waste of money if you’re within walking distance of a bar. You’re not impressing your date either because you called for an Uber. Save your money for another round while helping save the environment by reducing fuel emissions!
.) Paint your face eco-friendly green! – People love to go all out on St. Patty’s Day not only with the leprechaun beards and outlandish outfits, but also by painting their entire face (or body) green. However, most store-bought make-up and body paint contains petrochemicals that aren’t necessarily good for your body. From soap to sunscreen, your skin absorbs up to 60 percent of the products applied to it every day. Using products that have plant-based ingredients can really make a difference in the long run. You can find all-natural face paint here.
.) Drink water! – Alcohol is yummy, but too much will make tomorrow painful. Switch ordering beers with ordering glasses of water! It’s free and refreshing, and your body will thank you for it. Keep your water glass and ask for refills every time you run out so that when the bar gets too crowded to make contact with the bartender, you have no excuse. Water is the best drinking option you can make. Always. Pass it on.
.) Keep the peace! – We all have that one friend who’s likely to punch someone they’re not fond of when intoxicated. Going green is about more than plants and recycling; it’s an attitude. Embodying the “green” outlook means you’re positive and pro-active, seeking to better the environment, our lives, and thus world. Therefore, friends don’t let friends start fights in bars because it’s stupid, immature, and almost always unnecessary.
